Richville man allegedly uses gun in confrontation, faces felony charges
A 28-year-old Richville man is facing two felony charges in Otter Tail County Court, stemming from a confrontation among neighbors Feb. 23.
Derek Russel Hoffman is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and making terroristic threats with reckless disregard to risk.
According to court documents:
Neighbors to Hoffman called law enforcement to report that Hoffman was honking the horn of his vehicle early in the morning, in an attempt to disturb the neighbors.
When neighbors attempted to approach Hoffman down the road, he allegedly pulled a gun, while allegedly making threats and saying he had the right to self-defense.
Hoffman later told law enforcement he felt he was under attack by the neighbor. When questioned, the neighbor said he was attempting to have a conversation with Hoffman.
Hoffman was arrested and released from jail Feb. 24 with a $10,000 bond and an agreement that he would not enter the victim's residence, abstain from drugs and alcohol and remain law abiding. He is also not allowed during this time to use or possess firearms or dangerous weapons.
