Audubon native Roger Broberg, 92, of Henning, Minn., died on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at the Henning Golden Living Center.
Roger was born the son of Albert and Yerda (Roberg) Broberg on July 27, 1915, at Audubon, and grew up in the Audubon area. He worked as a butter maker for Land O'Lakes Creamery before getting into the hardware business. He owned and operated Coast-to-Coast hardware stores in Henning, Wahpeton. N.D., Wheaton, Minn., and Fergus Falls. He married Mabel Gullan on Aug. 30, 1936 at the Assemblies of God Church in Fargo. Mabel died in January 1989. He subsequently married Gladys Rehn on June 4, 1989.
Roger was a family oriented and godly man who took an active interest in his church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, and song leader. He was a member of the PTL Choir and served on the board of directors of Wycliff Bible Translators.
Surviving Roger are his wife, Gladys; children, Barbara (David) Huffman of Monett, Mo., Lonnie (Karen) Broberg, Jr., of Wahpeton, Sharon (Robert) Dale of Bloomington, Minn., Janice (Michael) Rowen of Mill Creek, Wash., and Jerry (Angie) Broberg of Minnetonka, Minn.; a sister, Emogene Rydin of Rochester Hills, Mich., a sister-in-law, Iva Broberg of Fargo; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, Mabel; his parents; and brothers, Everill and Norman.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 12, at the First Baptist Church in Henning, with the Rev. Wendell Wahlin, Dr. Douglas Huffman and Pastor Mark Huffman officiating. Casket bearers were Roger's grandchildren, Doug Huffman, Mark Huffman, Tom Dale, Jeff Dale, Steve Rowen, Paul Broberg, Charles Broberg, Matthew Broberg and Grant Broberg.
Interment was in the Lake Eunice Free Church Cemetery at Audubon. Arrangements were entrusted to the Belmont Funeral Home in Henning.
