Ronald McDonald House Ride returns for 13th year
The world’s largest motorcycle benefit ride for the Ronald McDonald House is returning to New York Mills for its 13th year.
A long line of riders will take off from the New York Mills V.F.W. on Saturday, June 14, starting at noon, rain or shine.
They will wind east and then north to Nimrod, following a scenic route through Huntersville and Menahga before returning to New York Mills at about 4:30 p.m.
Concerts and other events will lead up to the ride, starting Thursday, June 12.
On Thursday, bikers and the public are invited to watch the band July Fighter at the V.F.W. at 8 p.m.
On Friday, June 13, Wicked Garden will play, again at the V.F.W. at 8 p.m.
Before the ride on Saturday, a pancake breakfast will be held at New York Mills School, from 8-11 a.m.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, kids can meet Ronald McDonald, the Hamburglar and Grimmace at a bike rodeo. Thirty bikes will be given away as prizes.
Ride registration will begin at 9 a.m., and will go until 11:30 a.m.
After the riders return, the V.F.W. will host a hog roast with live and silent auctions, door prizes and a burnout contest. There will be a chance to win a 2014 Harley-Davidson StreetGlide, a 2014 Lund Boat with a motor and trailer, and $2,500 in cash prizes. Prize drawings will be held at 7:59 p.m. (for the boat) and 8 p.m. (for the Harley and cash). After the drawings, the band 32 Below will perform.
A pancake breakfast on Sunday, June 15, at 7 a.m. at the V.F.W., will conclude this year’s events.
Funds raised through the ride go to the Ronald McDonald House in Fargo, N.D., which provides a ‘home away from home’ for families whose children receive care at medical facilities in Fargo-Moorhead.
In addition to cash donations for the Ronald McDonald House, motorcyclists and the New York Mills area community also collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House’s Pop Tab Collection Program.
Funds generated from recycling the tabs help offset the organization’s expenses. More than 1,000 gallons of pop tabs are collected every year as a part of the Ronald McDonald House Ride in New York Mills – that’s 5,000,000 pop tabs.
