Routine traffic stop leads to charges against three people

Email

Strange things sometimes happen in the course of law enforcement business.

Such was the case with an incident reported by the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department on Jan. 17, in which three separate individuals were charged for driving after their licenses had been revoked - two of whom drove themselves to the scene, knowing an officer would be there.

The incident took place along Highway 59, close to Dunvilla and north of Pelican Rapids.

The first driver, Ulysses Elknation, address unknown, was stopped due to excess speed, and then found to be driving after revocation of his driver's license.

Alicia Day of Cass Lake, owner of the vehicle Elknation had been driving, came to retrieve the vehicle. But she also was cited for driving after license revocation, as well as for having no proof of insurance.

After that, a third driver was called to retrieve the vehicle. But Everett Northrup of Detroit Lakes also was driving after revocation of his license.

Eventually, the vehicle was towed from the scene.

Charges are pending against all three individuals.
