Ruth Conn, a lifelong resident of Verndale, MN, passed away in her sleep from heart failure on Sunday, June 21, 2009, at the age of 83. She will be remembered as a loving Christian mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born in Verndale on May 24, 1926 to Daphne (Snow) and Paul Denny.
Ruth married Bently Conn on February 21, 1944 in Wadena. She and Bently had four children: Shirley, who passed away on November 14, 2008, at age 64, and husband, Myron Wicklund, of Wadena; Alice Bensen of Wadena; Pat and husband, Dave Hime, of Blaine; and Bently, Jr. of Verndale. Ruth's husband, Bently, died on January 28, 1986 at age 62. Her only brother, Lee, resides at the Alzheimer's wing in Staples and his wife, Donna Denny, lives in Verndale. Ruth leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.
Ruth's life revolved around her God, her family, her church, and of course her puppy, Buddy Boy. She served her community as a member of the Verndale Methodist Church, the Verndale Senior Citizens Center, the Verndale Historical Society, the England Prairie Pioneer Club, and the United Methodist Women's Group. She had been employed as a maid at Commercial Hotel and for cleaning many homes in the Wadena community. She enjoyed church work, Bible studies, and flower gardening.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 25, at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church in Verndale with Pastor Jill Palowski officiating. Interment was in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Verndale. Pallbearers were Terry Repasky, Gary VanDam, Wayne Stave, Robert Schultz, Leland Moyer, and Mark Callahan.
