Ruth A. Lerud, 80, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, August 11, 2008 at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park.
Ruth A. Hill was born to Ira and Alice (Svoboda) Hill on Nov. 21, 1927 in rural Ramsey County, N.D. She moved with her family to Deer Creek, Minn., where she was raised and educated. Ruth married Vernon Lerud on March 28, 1947 in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Detroit Lakes, where Ruth worked as a clerk for the Sears store, retiring in 1985. Vern died in 1994. After Vern's death, Ruth spent her summers in Detroit Lakes and her winters in Mission, Texas for many years.
Ruth was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Red Hat Ladies. She enjoyed dancing and was known as the "dancing grandma." She also enjoyed walking, her Texas church congregation, her Peter Piper Pizza group, and traveling.
Survivors include a son, Dennis (Ruth) Lerud of Audubon; a daughter, Bev Wilson (Steve Severson) of Fargo; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers, Jim (Kathy) Hill of Deer Creek, Claire (Joyce) Hill of East Grand Forks, Minn., Howard Hill of Bovey, Minn., and a sister, Kay Stevens of Farrell, Pa.
In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by three sisters: Dorothy, Doris and Evelyn.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 at Eksjo Lutheran Church in rural Lake Park, with the Rev. Randy Whitehead officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
