Schultz injured in final game at St. Scholastica
DULUTH, Minn. - The St. Scholastica men's basketball was defeated in the regular season finale 73-58 by Presentation College at Reif Gymnasium on Saturday night.
The game was the last for former Perham star Logan Schultz.
Schultz played in his last game, but was limited to only 11 minutes due to an injury in the first half.
Five minutes into the game Presentation (9-16, 6-8 UMAC) had a 12-7 lead, however St. Scholastica on an 8-0 run to take the lead at 15-12. With 10:43 remaining in the first half CSS had a 21-16 lead, but Presentation would finish the half on an 18-12 run to take 34-33 lead into the locker rooms.
In the first half there were seven lead changes and five ties.
The Saints shot 39 percent from the field in the first half. Presentation shot 48 percent. Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) and Presentation's Channing Coffey had game-highs of 10 points each.
At the start of the second half, the Saints jumped out to a quick 39-34 lead, but CSS would go scoreless for the next five minutes and quickly fall behind by 48-39. Presentation would run away with the game by going on a 17-10 run to push their lead to 65-49, which allowed Presentation to easily win this game 73-58.
The Saints finished the night shooting 30-percent from the field, while Presentation shot 48-percent. The 3-point shot was the Achilles' heel for the Saints, because CSS went 3-for-21 from behind the arc, while Presentation was 8-for-21.
Presentation's Michael Babcock went 4-for-7 from 3-point range, which is one more then the whole CSS team got; Babcock and Brett Tester had game-highs with 23 points. In their final game as Saints, Danny Schmitz (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) and Derek Anderson (Cook, Minn./Cook HS) scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Saints end their season with a 9-16 overall and a 6-8 UMAC record and miss the UMAC Postseason Tournament for the first time in its existence. The Saints say goodbye to seniors Danny Schmitz, Derek Anderson, and Logan Schultz.
