The "Scootin' to the Next Level" campaign will be officially launched April 15, as promoters prepare for a cross-country jaunt from the Red River to Minneapolis-and it will be done on a two-wheel scooter.
The April 15 dinner at Mulligan's will feature Bud Fuentes, lead singer of the popular dance band "The Shakers." He has a special dinner show that has been a hit in Fargo-Moorhead.
The idea of a pledge "scooter marathon" was derived from the "Dreams for Kids Make-A-Wish Foundation" drive. Mark Schmidt, one of the founders of the local organization, brainstormed the idea of running a foot-powered scooter for a long distance, to promote the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the local Dreams for Kids motorcycle run-which is set for July 24 this summer.
Social hour for the event starts at 6 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. dinner.
Tickets are available at the door for $20 per person and $35 per couple.

"This is a fundraiser and just a fun kickoff before Mark starts his scooting from Moorhead the following week," said fellow Perham Lion Steve Tryggeseth. The Lions, not only in Perham but throughout the region, have been supporting the "Scootin'" fundraiser.
Schmidt's ending point is the Target Field (Twins new ballpark) on Saturday, May 1 for the Make-A-Wish of Minnesota Foundation Annual Ball. There, he will arrive in tuxedo - on his scooter - to donate all the money he has raised to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
