Section 6A baseball action today, Fergus Falls, 4 p.m.
In Fergus Falls, New York Mills will face Frazee in the first of a possible two-game set to decide the Section 6A championship.
The No-3-state ranked and top-seeded Eagles bring a 22-game undefeated winning streak to a third match-up with the No. 10-ranked, second-seeded Hornets.
New York Mills need only win one game to secure a second straight section title. Frazee will need to sweep both games to advance.
The Eagles having not lost a game in the playoffs has the pitching staff in order. Senior Adam Snelgrove will take the hill.
The Eagles are looking to make their fourth trip to the state tournament and their second to the state final. New York Mills finished as the 2004 runners-up.
Frazee and New York Mills met last season in the section final. Snelgrove cleaned up the final two innings of a then-freshman Brandon Kupfer start to defeat the Hornets 4-2.
The Eagles were winless in the state tournament last season: an opening round loss to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 8-0 in Jordan, Minn., and an elimination game defeat to Deer River 4-1 in Shakopee.
"I think we're going to be more successful this year," Kupfer said.
The Hornets will have revenge on their minds for the two losses this season to New York Mills. The Eagles won in Frazee during the regular season 4-1. The only loss Frazee has suffered in the playoffs was the sub-section final, a 3-1 win for New York Mills.
The Eagles have won four straight over the Hornets, including twice in last year's playoffs.
Frazee's last victory was a 10-0, five-inning win April 26, 2011.
The Hornets knocked New York Mills out of the 2010 playoffs with a 5-3 win.
There is plenty of recent history between the two clubs and both teams bring back two-thirds of their starting lineup from last season.
The mutual angst should create an intense atmosphere at Legion Field in Fergus Falls.
Game one is scheduled for first pitch at 4 p.m. A second game, if necessary, will start at 6 p.m.
