Semi damaged in crash near Perham
No injuries were reported in a semi-trailer accident east of Perham on Monday. The crash caused significant damage to the semi-trailer, however, which was hauling wood chips.
Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Lt. Matt McGuire said the accident took place at the intersection of Highway 8 and 565th Avenue, northeast of Big Pine Lake, at 1:45 p.m.
“The driver said he took his eyes off the road, and as he reached for an item he drove onto the shoulder of the roadway,” said McGuire. “Because of recent rain, the shoulder of the road was soft. The semi-trailer went in the ditch and ended up on its side.”
The driver was 58-year-old Michael Dupree of Audubon, Minn. He was wearing his seatbelt and driving a 2000 Freightliner, a commercial vehicle.
The Otter Tail County Highway Department checked the roadway for damage and placed hazard equipment at the location of the accident.
