Semi fire closes down Highway 10
A semi-truck caught fire along Highway 10 east of Perham last night, causing two grass fires and necessitating a road closure.
The Perham Fire Department was called in at about 8:20 Thursday night to battle the fire, according to Fire Chief Mark Schmidt. About two miles east of Perham, Highway 10 was closed down and traffic was rerouted for about 45 minutes.
The two grass fires lit by the semi burned a total of about 3-4 acres, Schmidt said.
The New York Mills Fire Department also responded to the scene, bringing along a tanker full of water and helping to put out the grass fires.
The cause of the fire is not known for certain yet, but Schmidt said it may have had something to do with a hot bearing from the trailer.
