Ingebrigsten is serving his third term in the Minnesota Senate. The Legislator of Distinction Award is given to legislators who played key roles in advancing the coalition’s policy during the preceding session.

As minority lead on the Senate Environment, Economic Development and Agriculture Finance Committee and a member of the Omnibus Legacy Bill Conference Committee, Ingebrigsten ensured the work he began as the previous chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee continued this year. He played a pivotal role in solidifying that the 40/40/20 split (between the state, the metro area and Greater Minnesota) in parks and trails funding, which began under his leadership, would continue under this year’s Legacy Bill.

“Regardless of who controls the majority, Sen. Ingebrigsten plays an important role in recognizing the concerns of Greater Minnesota on environmental issues,” said Bruce Ahlgren, president of the coalition and mayor of Cloquet. “The work he has done in the Senate should result in Greater Minnesota parks and trails becoming stronger over the next decade.”

The Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities is a nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy organization representing 85 cities outside of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The coalition educates legislators about issues important to Greater Minnesota.
