A 90-year-old woman was charged in Wadena County District Court Jan. 5 with a school bus stop arm violation in connection with a pedestrian accident in Verndale.

On Sept. 27 at 3:53 p.m., Cory Carr, interim chief of the Verndale Police Department was called to an accident on South Brown Street, where a 5-year-old girl who had gotten off the school bus and was crossing the street was hit by another vehicle while the stop arm was extended and the red lights of the school bus were flashing.

That car was allegedly driven by Ruth Eleanor Beaver of Verndale. The girl was taken to Lakewood Health System in Staples and held overnight for observation.

The charge is a gross misdemeanor. Beaver's first appearance was set for Jan. 31.
