Sieling announces candidacy for Dist. 8B
Alexandria resident Jay Sieling is running for Representative of District 8B in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
The seat is currently held by second-term lawmaker Mary Franson, R-Alexandria, who has won re-endorsement by local Republicans.
Sieling, an instructor in the Liberal Arts Department at Alexandria Technical College, has taught courses in public speaking, interpersonal communication, technology ethics, ethics, philosophy and religion. He has been an at-home parent, a small business owner, children’s television host and producer, radio announcer, magician and musician.
Born and raised in rural southern Minnesota, Sieling is a firm believer in the values of rural Minnesota: hard work, stewardship of resources and cooperation.
He and his wife, Deborah Dittberner, have called the Alexandria area home for more than 20 years and raised three children there. Sieling cares about the same issues that are important to the citizens of this area, including healthcare, education and infrastructure.
He graduated Cum Laude from Gustavus Adolphus College, with majors in speech communication and classics. He completed course work for a Master of Arts degree in speech communication at Pennsylvania State University and earned his Master of Arts degree in humanities from California State University.
Active in the community, Sieling plays in the Calvary Lutheran Praise Band, has volunteered for the American Heart Association, has been on the Community Education advisory board, was a member of the Lake Geneva Association, and has been a regular speaker/entertainer at local DARE graduations throughout the area.
