'Silver egg' hunt launches 2009 Perham Turtle Fest

"Squirtle the Turtle," Perham's Turtle Race mascot, will lay a silver egg for the 25th "Silver Anniversary" of the Perham Turtle Fest.

Whoever finds this magic egg will win $100 in Perham Bucks.

The Silver Turtle Egg Hunt will be one of several new and special features for this 25th birthday festival, June 17 to 21.

The first clue for the silver egg hunt will be revealed June 17.

Also new this year will be two nights of music and dancing. Fireworks will be Friday night, 10:30--launched from the fairgrounds.

The Turtle Fest Grand Parade is at 7 p.m. in downtown Perham.

Demo Derby now at 2 p.m. Saturday

A new schedule has been set for the Perham Lions Demolition Derby. This year, it will be at 2 p.m., Saturday afternoon, instead of the former evening schedule. Gates at the East Otter Tail Fairgrounds will open at 1 p.m. for the demolition derby.

The Turtle Fest 5K and 10K Road Race will mark its 14th year--headquartered at Paul Miller Park.

Singer Erin Drew performs pre-parade

Country singer Erin Drew, who was featured at the Perham Trade and Home Show in February, will entertain the crowds from 5-7 p.m. at the parade review stand. Also performing during the pre-parade festivities will be a strolling Barbershop vocal group.

Dreams for Kids hosts dance, downtown cook-out

The Dreams for Kids/Make-A-Wish Foundation has two big events planned for the 2009 Turtle Fest, starting with a Friday night dance. Country band "October Road" will perform at 8:30 p.m. Friday night, after the parade. The dance will be at the East Otter Tail County Fairgrounds.

Saturday afternoon, the Dreams for Kids group will be host a hog roast cook-out in downtown Perham. Proceeds from the outdoor lunch will go toward the local "Make-A-Wish" campaign.

Uglies highlight "Back to 60's" event

The Unbelievable Uglies will make their second annual appearance in Perham, for the "Back to the 60's Bash" Saturday night at the Grand View Heights Ballroom, at the Perham Pioneer Village.

The Uglies, a legendary Midwestern band from the 1960's with four original members, will be presented as a fundraiser for the East Otter Tail County Historical Society, with proceeds going to the maintenance of the ballroom and the Pioneer Village.

Gates open at 6 p.m., with "Sapphire" performing at 7 p.m., and the Uglies at 9 p.m.

Advance tickets are available at Ma's Little Red Barn, Jerome's Antiques, the Chamber of Commerce offices and the Perham Enterprise Bulletin.
