Skatepark equipment demonstration OK'd by city for June 16
Area skateboard enthusiasts will "test drive" some of the equipment they would like to have in a proposed Perham skatepark.
A traveling demonstration will be set up on the newly paved area behind Ma's Little Red Barn June 16, from 4-6 p.m.
Trish McClellan, one of the parents who has worked with the Perham Parks and Recreation board in planning for a skatepark, requested permission from the city council at the June 9 meeting.
American Ramp Company, a builder based in Joplin, Missouri, will bring 30 pieces of their equipment for skateboarders, inline skaters and BMX bikers to try out. They will also have a few contests and giveaways, according to McClellan.
In addition to the demonstrations, a local band, "Exit the Fall" will perform starting at 5 p.m.
American Ramp Company is traveling to cities across the U.S. to set up a complete skatepark so that local riders can experience ARC equipment firsthand and those making the decision to purchase a skatepark for a city can see the equipment
The mobile skatepark features equipment from each of the three product lines, which will help communities decide which building method is right for the city. During the skate session there will be music, some contests, prizes, and a representative will be available to answer any questions and explain the products.
All participants must complete a waiver and must bring and wear a helmet to participate.
