Softball: D-G-F eliminates Yellowjackets from playoffs
FRAZEE — After dropping a 13-2 loss to No. 2-seeded Fergus Falls the Perham softball team faced elimination against top-seeded Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.
The Rebels, Heart O’ Lakes regular season champs, were sent to the elimination bracket by Hawley in a 5-2 defeat. D-G-F eliminated Perham from Class 2A, Section 8 softball tournament play in a see-saw affair by the score of 12-9.
Makenzie Dukleth and Kelly Bergee each had four hits for the Rebels, who improved to 19-2 on the season.
Perham finishes their season with a mark of 6-12.
Perham took a 3-1 lead in the top half of the fourth inning when pinch runner Becca Benke scored on a Trish Kawlewski double. Benke was running for starting pitcher Allie Doll. Megan Meyers doubled off Doll in the bottom half breaking open a five-run fourth that gave the lead back to the Rebels at 6-3.
The fifth inning saw tens runs scored, six by Perham. The Yellowjackets loaded the bases multiple times and brought runs home in single increments retaking the lead 9-6.
Perham was aided by a nice play by shortstop Syd Roberts to hold runners, but the Yellowjackets missed opportunities to get crucial outs and D-G-F took the lead for good 10-9.
A two-RBI single by Megan Casto added insurance runs in the sixth for D-G-F leading to the 12-9 final. Dukleth pitched a complete game for the victory, her 18th of the season.
