Softball: Yellowjackets 1-2 at Frazee tournament
FRAZEE -- The Perham softball team (8-11) completed a season sweep of Pelican Rapids (3-12) to open the Frazee Tournament with a victory.
The Yellowjackets scored early and cruised to a 7-2 win. The two teams had met the week prior in Perham with Perham hanging on to a 2-1 victory.
By the time the Vikings got their two runs in the fourth inning, the Jackets opened a 5-0 advantage.
Allie Doll scored twice in the game.
Perham answered the Vikings' two runs in the fourth with two of their own.
Ivy Honer and Doll scored the insurance runs.
Perham met Ottertail Central (15-2) in the second round of play. The teams went back and forth matching each other for runs scored in a 12-10 win for the Bulldogs that was decided in the last inning.
Perham jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first. The top five in the Jacket order all scored.
OTC added four in the third and to jump ahead 6-5.
Sophie Byer scored her second run of the game in the third, along with Trisha Kawlewski, to bump Perham back in the lead 7-6.
The Bulldogs scored in the remaining four innings - one in the fourth to tie the game at seven. Perham failed to cross the plate.
The teams traded a run in the fifth, knotting the score at eights.
Each team scored twice in the sixth. Doll and Syd Roberts scored for the Jackets to match the top two in the Bulldog order, Rosie Johnson and Brianna Kimber, who scored for OTC.
The game was tied at ten going into the seventh.
Johnson scored again, for her fifth run of the game, ahead of Maddie Stueve to put the Bulldogs up 12-10.
Ali Christenson got on base with a two-out single to get the tying run to the plate, but Honer was induced into a grounder to second for the final out.
Perham entered the final round of play battling for third place with the host Hornets.
Frazee put up eight runs to just one from Perham to take the third place game.
The Hornets out-hit the Yellowjackets 11-6 and Perham aided the Hornet cause with six errors in the field.
