Spearing bans on Beers and West Battle Lake rescinded Dec. 2

According to Minnesota DNR Area Fisheries Supervisor Jim Wolters, the spearing bans on Beers and West Battle Lakes will be rescinded effective Dec. 2.

However, the special protected slot length regulation for northern pike (no harvest of pike from 24-36”, one over 36” in possession) is still in effect.

If spearers choose to participate on Beers and West Battle Lakes, they will still need to comply with that regulation.

According to a March report by Tim Spielman, associate editor of Outdoor News, the lifting of the bans are part of legislation initiated by Tom Hackbarth, R-Cedar, which called for removing seven lakes from a list of 26 lakes listed in the Minnesota fishing regulations.
