'Sponge Bob' scarecrow creation wins new EOT Fair competition

The fair's "Scarecrow Contest" was a popular addition to the 2008 East Otter Tail County Fair.

Scarecrows were created by entrants, and the creative works were on display throughout the fair run--with spectators invited to vote for "people's choice." Nearly 500 votes were cast.

Winning the popular vote was a scarecrow designed by Dianne Bachmann, and inspired by the TV cartoon "Sponge Bob."

Winning the judge's decision was an artistic creation of a ghostly female scarecrow, named "Goddess Devine," by Judith Christofferson, Dent.

Also entering the Scarecrow Contest was Diane Sazama, Perham, with her "Suzie Q" creation.

Ma's Little Red Barn, Perham, entered a Ma and Pa scarecrow.

The fair board also created a character for the contest, a old fellow from the countryside named "Eddie."

Fair board officer Rick Breitenfeldt hopes to make the scarecrow contest an annual event at the East Otter Tail Fair.
