Staying home in winter is no option in lakes country
Who says the fun is done once the holidays are over? Every weekend in the months of January and February are packed with events to attend.
This weekend, Ministry of Jazz will perform at the In Their Own Words Veterans Museum in Perham. On Saturday, Jan. 15 musicians from the area will perform. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Call 218-346-7678 or e-mail, firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
On Sunday, Jan. 16 a bridal show will be hosted by Elegance Bridal and Formal Wear in Perham. The show will be held at Thumper Pond in Ottertail on Sunday, Jan. 16 from 12-4 p.m. A style show will be held at 3 p.m. For more information call 218-346-4696 (GOWN).
Also on Sunday, the Ottertail Business Association and the Otter Trail Riders will host the annual Snowmobile Radar Run.
More than 50 classifications will be featured on Otter Tail Lake. A 660-foot run is planned, conditions permitting. The alternate location for the run is the Smokin' Iron track located behind the old Village Inn in the city of Ottertail.
Event registration will be held from 9 a.m. until noon. Runs start at 10 a.m., with three runs for $10. Additional runs are $1 each. Identification is required and participants under age 17 need a parent's signature.

For the last weekend in January, Thumper Pond will once again be hopping. Friends of Friends - Fighting Hunger in Otter Tail County is hosting a dinner and silent and live auction, along with music and dancing on Saturday, Jan. 29.
The social will begin at 6 p.m., dinner is at 7 p.m. and the live auction is set to begin at 8 p.m.
Silent auction items include designer purses, a Jet Ski rental, gift certificates, Bison football tickets, artwork from local artists, wine baskets, rounds of golf and much more.
The dance, featuring The Shakers, will begin at 9:30 p.m. The event fee is $50 per person or $100 per couple. The organization partners with the United Way of Otter Tail County to help fight hunger in the county. Its purpose is to support the seven Otter Tail County food shelves and fund the Otter Tail County backpack program to feed hungry children on weekends.

The first weekend in February will mark the annual Perham Liquidation Sale. The event will be held at the Perham Area Community Center Feb. 4-6. Free admission and parking will be available. Hours will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, contact Steve Richter at 218-346-5575.
The second weekend brings the annual Freeze Fest is back. Events include a "freeze your face" 5K race, an ice fishing contest, and "freezin' for a reason," with proceeds going to Kinship of the Perham Area.
