Stingers sweep Fergus Falls, clinch District 9 top seed

PERHAM — The Perham Stingers wrapped up regular season play with a sweep of Fergus Falls 9-4 and 8-2 to finish with a record of 20-9 securing the top seed in the upcoming District 9 playoffs.

Perham erased a 1-0 first inning deficit in the second inning with a pair of runs by Brady Stoll and Andy Hanson. Hanson scored the go-ahead run on a base hit by Alex Tostenson.

Dylan Perrine doubled in to lead off the third and scored on an error at first base. Chandler Rach made the score 4-1 on a base hit by Hanson.

Fergus Falls’s first baseman Joel King singled and scored in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Jake Western to cut Perham’s lead to 4-2.

Perham put the game away in the fifth scoring five runs. Tostenson, Alec Meyer, Patrick Murphy, Hanson and Aaron Solberg all crossed home for a 9-2 lead.

Murphy cleared the bases with a three-run double and picked up the victory throwing five innings allowing two runs. Stoll cleaned up the final two innings.

Tostenson had four hits in the game, all singles.

In game two, Hanson had three hits and Rach knocked in four runs. Curtis pitched six innings allowing two runs for the win. Hoffman pitched the final inning of Perham’s 8-2 victory.

The District 9 playoffs will be held in Fergus Falls next weekend.
