Adam Garrett Rasmussen, 20, of Henning, Minn. was arrested on charges related to the April 21 robbery of Deer Creek Express and the attempted robbery of Perham Tesoro on April 30.

As previously reported in the Perham Focus, the Deer Creek Express convenience store was robbed on April 21 at 9:30 p.m. by a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black ski mask and blue jeans.

The suspect reportedly walked behind the counter and ordered the clerk to open the till, took an undisclosed amount of money and left on foot.

Police officers from Henning, New York Mills and Parkers Prairie responded to the scene, as did the sheriff’s office and a Fergus Falls Police Department canine unit.

Then, on April 30, a man in a mask, coat and gloves entered the Perham Tesoro gas station at 11:46 p.m. He demanded money, but fled the scene when employees resisted. No money was taken.

Authorities said no threats were made, no weapons were shown and no one was injured during either incident.

According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department, Rasmussen admitted committing both acts in a May 2 interview with officers from the Perham police and sheriff’s departments.

After the interview, Rasmussen was placed under arrest for robbery and theft, said sheriff’s Lt. Matt McGuire.

Rasmussen is scheduled to appear in Otter Tail County District Court the afternoon of Monday, May 5.
