A Menahga police officer clocked a motorcycle going 87 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone around 7:10 p.m., and pursued the bike north on U.S. Highway 71, court documents indicated. As the officer turned on his squad car lights, the motorcycle, carrying two people, passed two cars and another motorcycle on the shoulder of the road. The officer then activated his siren and continued the pursuit for three miles, at which point the suspect turned onto a dead-end road, came to the end, and stopped and put his hands in the air.

The suspect, James Robert Dahlin, now 55, spent the rest of the evening before his birthday on July 9 with police. They immediately noticed an odor of alcohol and administered a breath test, which registered 0.101, in excess of the legal limit of 0.08.

The Menahga man was charged July 11 in Wadena County District Court with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, fourth-degree DWI (two counts), reckless driving and speeding in excess of 20 miles per hour more than the posted limit. He was released on $300 bail until his initial court appearance, which was set for July 26.
