Suspect in Granite Falls double homicide arrested
GRANITE FALLS, Minn. - The suspect in a double homicide two weeks ago in Granite Falls is in custody.
Andrew Joseph Dikken was arrested about 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Renville County Sheriff’s Office in Olivia, according to a news release from the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Dikken, 28, of Granite Falls and formerly of Renville, was brought to the sheriff’s office by family members who have been cooperating with the investigation, the release said.
He was transported to the Yellow Medicine County Jail in Granite Falls, where he will be held pending arraignment in Yellow Medicine County District Court.
Dikken had been sought since Labor Day in the shooting deaths of Kara Ann Monson, 26, of Granite Falls, and Christopher Allan Panitzke, 28, of Redwood Falls. Monson died at the scene of multiple gunshot wounds, and Panitzke died Sept. 8 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis of complications from multiple gunshot wounds.
The shooting occurred at Monson's home in the early morning hours of Sept. 2. Panitzke was able to call 911.
Dikken's vehicle – the subject of numerous alerts from law enforcement asking the public to be vigilant – was found Sept. 4 in a gravel pit near the Minnesota River south of Sacred Heart. Law enforcement officers had conducted extensive searches for Dikken in that area without success.
The investigation has been led by the Granite Falls Police Department, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office and the BCA with the assistance of other agencies.
