Swimmers defeat DL, second at True Team
For the second time in three weeks, the Perham/NY Mills swimmers defeated Detroit Lakes by a comfortable margin, 170-129.
The Yellowjackets placed first in seven of 12 events, including five races with two or more of the top finishes.
In the 500-yard freestyle race, four Yellowjackets finished before any Lakers touched.
Jill Burns won the event in 5:53.15; Jackie Hanson was second, 6:04.88; Laine Miller finished third, 6:17.52, followed by Bailey Meyer, 6:17.66.
Kelsey Kratzke, Beth Ingebrand and Annie Ingebrand finished a 1-2-3 sweep of the 100-yard breastroke. Kratzke's time was 1:14.76 to lead the way.
The Ingebrand's finished within seconds of each other, 1:21.01 and 1:23.78, respectively.
Kyra Arneri and Sam Salathe took the top two spots in the 100-yard butterfly, 1:07.64 for Arneri and 1:10.52 for Salathe. Brittany Roberts made it three Jackets in the top four with a fourth place time of 1:13.93.
Rylie Rothmeyer and Jackie Hanson, 2:10.55 and 2:15.29, took the top two spots in the 200-yard freestyle.
The Yellowjackets placed first in all three relay races, including the top finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Natalie Murphy, Kratzke, Arneri and Salathe were tops with 1:50.62. The B-team of Lexi Richter, both Ingebrands and Hanson were second, 1:56.20.
Arneri, Richter, Rothmeyer and Salathe took the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:03.88.
Meyer, Kratzke, Salathe and Murphy got the meet off to a quick start winning the first event, the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:01.48.
Burns and Richter qualified for Sections in the 200 I.M.
Rylie Rothmeyer qualified for Sections in the 100-backstroke.
Kratzke was the lone Jacket to take first place in a race at the True Team meet, also held in Detroit Lakes, but the rest of the team made plenty of appearances on the podium.
"This is the best we have ever competed at True Team," Head Coach Sheri Ressler said.
The Yellowjackets finished second, as a team, to Park Rapids, who won the meet with 1586, Perham/NY Mills totaled 1370, finishing 59 points ahead of third place Bemidji.
All swimmers results count for points at the True Team meet, rather than the top six finishers scoring in dual and regular season competition.
"It was so fun to see so many girls standing on the podium getting medals for being in the top eight," added Ressler.
Kratzke won the 100-breastroke, 1:13.58.
She also was part of the 200-medley relay team that took second place behind Fergus Falls. Meyer, Salathe and Murphy joined her on the runners-up podium. The Perham/NY Mills B-team made an appearance on the podium finishing sixth.
Rothmeyer, Hanson and Roberts made it three Yellowjackets in the top eight of the second event, the 200-freestyle. Rothmeyer was second, Hanson was fifth and Roberts eighth.
Rothmeyer also took second in the 500-freestyle, 5:42.98.
Sierra Lynne placed fifth in 1m diving with a score of 285.40. Kyley Foster of Detroit Lakes won the event with 354.30 points.
Meyer finished third in the 100-fly, 1:07.70.
Murphy was third in the 100-free, 58.63.
