Swimming: Langendorfer, Cullen in good form at Otter Invite
FERGUS FALLS -- Last season's state swimming and diving participants Zach Langendorfer and Jayden Cullen had top finishes for the Perham/New York Mills boys swim team as they opened the season at the Fergus Falls Otter Invitational Saturday.
The duo scored the only event wins for the Jackets battling Detroit Lakes' Jared Olson to do so.
Langendorfer won the 200-I.M. by over four seconds in a time of 2:15.37. Olson was second in 2:19.50. Langendorfer's Individual Medley time was a section qualifying swim.
Cullen won the 500-freestyle in 5:35.25. Olson was second six seconds back at 5:41.87.
Langendorfer (1:06.90) added a runner-up finish and a section qualifying time in the 100-breaststroke behind Fergus Falls' Cal Mouritsen (1:05.99).
Cullen tied for third (Section time) in the 50-free in a time of 25.15 with Park Rapids' Ben Kading. A pair of Lakers took the top two spots. Isaac Clem won in 23.61; Austin McCullough was runner-up in 24.82.
"We had many swimmers start their season close to where they ended it last year," Perham Head Coach Trent Swanson said. "Everyone swam hard."
Paul Swanson finished third in the 100-backstroke (1:08.46-section qualifying time) and fourth in the 100-butterfly in a time of 1:06.70. Thief River Falls' Kyle Possai won the 100-fly in 58.80.
Swanson swam a second section time in the 100-fly at 1:06.70.
Fergus Falls won the Invitational with 463 points. Detroit Lakes was second with 432; Park Rapids third with 354.5. Perham took fifth with 167.5 points behind Thief River Falls (241) and ahead of Morris Area (65).
