Teamsters Union Local 320, which represents a substantial portion of Wadena County’s workforce, filed a civil lawsuit against the county on April 26 in Seventh Judicial District Court in Wadena. Court file number 80-CV-13-286 has been assigned to the case. According to, the lawsuit deals with employment.

The Wadena County Board of Commissioners scheduled a special closed meeting about the suit on Thursday, May 2. County Attorney Kyra Ladd will meet with commissioners at the special closed meeting. It is not known whether she will be assigned to defend the county, or whether commissioners may choose their labor attorney, Tom Fitzpatrick, to handle the case.

Attorney Kevin Michael Beck filed the suit on behalf of Minnesota Teamsters Public and Law Enforcement Employees’ Union Local 320. Beck practices with the firm of Kelly and Lemmons, P.A. The website lists his practice areas as employment and labor law, criminal defense, state/local/municipal law, general practice, and military law. He has been in practice for five years. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Carleton College, and his J.D. in 2008 from William Mitchell College of Law.

Teamsters Union Local 320 is the only bargaining unit which has not settled with the county on a labor agreement for the 2013-2015 period.
