Third annual Beast Mode Challenge July 26

The coordinators of the third Annual Myrel Schermerhorn Beast Mode Challenge are excited to announce that $2,000 in tuition scholarships is available to qualifying Challenge participants.

Included is a $500 tuition scholarship specifically for students enrolled in a trade or technical college.

While there are exciting monetary opportunities for college students, participants of all ages and families are encouraged to compete.

Last year, the youngest competitor was 4-year-old Katie Courneya, proving the Beast Mode Challenge is a fun competition for people of all ages.

New to the competition is a 40 and over team division.

Coordinator Mary Schermerhorn said, “I am looking forward to seeing participants, young to old compete, in addition to families.”

The best scoring family will receive a custom-made bean bag board.

Mary also stressed this event promotes health and wellness in families and individuals as they prepare for the Challenge.

“It’s exciting to see people train and go into ‘Beast Mode’ as Myrel would say.”

Last year, 29 teams and 29 individuals competed.

Alicia Lokken was the overall individual winner.

The Green Street Hooligans, consisting of Kody VanDanEykel, Evan Wendt, Zach Nelson, and Bruce Lemon won the team portion with a record-setting total of 37 points.

More participants are expected to compete this year as individuals or four-person teams.

The Beast Mode Challenge was created to give back to the community in memory of Myrel Schermerhorn, who tragically passed away in December 2011.

Myrel often said that it was time to go into “beast mode” during his workouts.

The challenge has been set up so that nearly anyone can participate. There are four components to the challenge including pull-ups (or modified arm hang for females), push-ups, sit-ups, and a one-mile run.

Proceeds go to the recurring scholarship fund, Frazee Fire and Rescue, and the Frazee Wrestling Boosters.

The Frazee Turkey Days event will take place, rain or shine, on July 26 at the Frazee High School football field.

The preregistration price is $10 for individuals and $30 for teams of four, and day-of registration prices are $12 for individuals and $40 for teams of four. T-shirts can also be preordered on the website.
