Conservation Officer Chris Vinton presented a ceremonial photograph in recognition of Kevin Kupferschmid's 30 years of volunteer firearms safety instruction.

"Without the instructors the program wouldn't be as successful as it is," Vinton said. "The volunteers are the ones that make the program work. In 30 years, the number of accidents has plummeted."

Kupferschmid followed in the footsteps of his father George, who was a safety instructor for 15 years.

"I was brought up with my dad as an instructor and wanted to continue starting kids out the right way," he said.

"I didn't realize it was going to last this long."
