Three burglaries in four days in Vergas
"Crime wave" would be an accurate description of a string of burglaries in Vergas that occurred over the span of a few days.
There were three break-ins from March 5-8, in a town with only a handful of year-round retail and restaurant businesses.
Billy's tavern was entered some time between 10 p.m. March 4 and 8 a.m. March 5, after the burglars cut the alarm system wires. The pull tab booth was broken into, and a safe containing an undisclosed amount of money was taken, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department.
Two more burglaries occurred overnight, March 7-8. Al's Stop and Shop was entered by breaking in the front door. Beer, cigarettes and approximately $150 was stolen.
A cash register, with an undetermined amount of cash, and a computer were stolen from Spanky's supper club the same night. Suspects forced their way through the rear door.
The sheriff's department hasn't ruled out the possibility that the burglaries are related.
