Three horses die in barn fire in rural Cass County
Three horses and one head of cattle died in a barn fire Wednesday near Gardner.
The blaze destroyed the barn and its contents, including two tractors, antique farm equipment, a vehicle and an enclosed car hauler, according to a news release from Cass County Sheriff's Capt. Rick Majerus.
The cause and origin of the fire were unknown. No foul play was suspected in the fire, which was reported at 11:44 a.m., the news release stated.
The barn belonging to Brent and Kim Sitzer was located at 16544 21st St. SE., about 1.5 miles west of I-29 on Cass County 34. The Gardner-Grandin Fire Department responded to the blaze.
