The Otter Tail County Historical Society's annual Township Historian meeting will be held on Thursday, April 23, at the Ottertail Community Center in Ottertail. The evening begins with a potluck dinner at 6:00 p.m. Please bring a dish to share; coffee and lemonade will be provided. The program and discussion starts at 7:00 p.m.
In 1997, the Otter Tail County Historical Society requested each township appoint a person to work with the historical society in collecting, preserving and interpreting our local heritage. This mission has resulted in efforts to document rural schools, camps and resorts, and farms.
So much more needs to be done, but the historical society needs to hear from you. What is going on in your township? Are there sites, records and artifacts of historical importance that need saving? At the meeting we will hear about efforts to save the 1876 Fort Juelson site in Sverdrup township and Amor township's work in preserving and using a log cabin. We will then open the floor to our township historians. Come and share the historical resources your township holds and how they can be saved.
