Track & Field: Perham boys 3rd at Hank Emmel Invite

With less than a full compliment of athletes, the Perham boys track and field team still finished third at the Hank Emmel Invitational in Pelican Rapids on Thursday. The Jacket boys had a team total of 53 points. Hawley/Ulen-Hitterdal was first with 100.25 points. Otter Tail Central was second with 59. New York Mills came in 11th with 23 points.
Klaus Weber led the Yellowjackets with a first place finish in the 3200m run with a time of 10:59.02. Jordan Berns finished third (11:37.31).
Charlie Schmitz was runner-up in the pole vault, clearing 10-feet. Mike Wisko was third in the 200m dash (23.91) and Chris Scheidecker finished fourth in the 400m dash (56.38). All four boys relay teams also placed with the 4x200 team taking third (1:42.06).
For New York Mills, Ben Jacobson was fifth in both the 110m hurdles (17.58) and the 300m hurdles (45.86). Cody Hendrickx took third in the 800m run (2:14.67) and Brittin Roberts finished fifth in the 3200m (12:08.36).
Brandon Menze took third in the shot put (43'8") and sixth in the discus (115'6") and Erik Tumberg was fourth in the triple jump (36'5").
On the girls side, Staples-Motley was first overall with 107 team points. Breckenridge was next with 86, followed by OTC with 74.5.
The New York Mills girls finished seventh with 27 points. The Perham girls were 12th (17).
New York Mills' Megan Cole finished third in the triple jump (30'3"), fourth in the long jump (14'4.5") and fourth in the 100m dash (13.61)
Alicia Boe finished third in the 800m run for the Lady Eagles with a time of 2:36.86. Brittnie Menze was third in the shot put (33'2") and sixth in the discus (90'0").
Heather Schultz has a first place finish for Perham in the shot put with a throw of 39'11". She was also fourth in the discus (97'1"). Jenna Strege finished sixth with a pole vault clearing 7-feet.
Perham head coach Mike Peterson said he held several kids out to rest for the Section 8AA True Team Meet, which will be in Park Rapids on May 5.
New York Mills will compete in the 6A True Team sectional at Wadena-Deer Creek High School on May 5.
