Two killed in Bemidji area crash

Two people were killed in a crash south of Bemidji on Tuesday.

James B. Carlson, 89, and Phyllis M. Carlson, 87, of LaPorte, Minn., died at the scene of the head-on crash on U.S. Highway 71, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

They were in a vehicle that collided with another driven by Russell C. Sandry, 76, of Box Elder, S.D., who suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Fargo hospital.

The patrol responded to the crash at 2:34 p.m.

Both vehicles were totaled in the accident, the patrol said.
