A new company in Perham hopes to help area residents with staying mobile and independent.

Evie King just opened Ultimate Mobility after two years of planning and going through the necessary due diligence.

The company, which is accredited by Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), offers scooters, wheelchairs, walkers, canes and cushions for purchase, rental or repair.

King, a nurse by trade, has been in the business for 18 years. She previously owned a company in Detroit Lakes, but sold it in 2007. Since then, she's been working to open up shop in Perham.

"I'm excited to be here," King said. "Perham was initially where I wanted to do my first business. I've been perusing this for the past two years."

Kim Borck, the company's rehabilitation technology specialist also goes to homes to do evaluations and help with any motorized wheelchairs or scooters.

Between them, King and Borck have more than 30 years of experience in the industry. King said she is excited to offer personalized service to area residents.

"I like helping people," she said. "I've been in the business for 18 years. I know it and I'm good at it. We strive for good customer service and back up what we say."

Ultimate Mobility staff can repair a piece of equipment and submit the insurance claim for customers. It works with various insurance agencies including Medicare and Medicaid.

"We do all the paperwork from start to finish," King said.

It also offers rental and retail of wheelchairs, both manual and power. The chairs are also fashioned with custom seating, special backs and cushions.

"We also do high-tech seating," King said. "And they don't have to be purchased from me for me to help them."

The company offers home evaluations and demonstrates how to use them for customers.

"It doesn't do them any good for us to sell a chair that they can't fit in their house," King said. "We'll help find out what they need, how to help them get the product they want and submit the paperwork."

There's no surprise bill in the end and staff takes the time to explain funding.

"It puts them at ease so they don't feel like they're being taken advantage of and end up with thousands of dollars out of their pockets," King said.

The company also works with individuals with no insurance, helping them to find other ways of funding their equipment.

King works with three different manufacturers, she said, which are durable products.

"I've learned over the years it makes sense to give better quality," King said. "We don't want to sell them the whole farm if they only need an acre. We won't sell you something you don't need."

King also hopes to be a resource for anyone with questions.

Ultimate Mobility works with all ages and needs. The company covers a large geographic area, including Fargo and Alexandria. Staff will go to clinics, hospitals, daycares, assisted living facilities, schools and homes, King said.

"We'll go wherever the need is," she said.

If she doesn't have something a customer needs, such as lifts, she can connect them with where they need to go, she said.

"If I can't get it I know someone else who can," she said.

King is planning an open house in the spring and will be unveiling a new, exciting service for her customers.

She will offer a drive-through service, where customers drive up and someone will come out and get their wheelchair or other piece of equipment for them. A bell will be hooked up that will alert the staff inside when a customer drives up.

"It's really a neat thing to help people so they don't have to carry it in," King said.

The office will be open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will also be open during lunch hours. It is located at 301 Coney St. in Perham. For more information, call 218-346-ROLL or e-mail
