UND nickname opponents plan for Wednesday rally in Grand Forks
Opponents of the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux nickname and Indian head logo are planning a rally at the university's American Indian center.
The Wednesday rally will come a day before the state Board of Higher Education is scheduled to discuss extending an Oct. 1 deadline for changing the nickname, which the NCAA deems offensive.
The board earlier voted to abolish the nickname and logo unless it gets a 30-year agreement from the state's two Sioux tribes by the deadline.
An April vote on the Spirit Lake reservation found a majority in support. Some nickname supporters on Standing Rock have asked for more time to try to get a vote on the issue on that reservation
