Unique duo strums, sings jazz, blues at Cultural Center
Jazz and blues infused sound filled the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center Oct. 25, as Jim Ouska and Jane Aleckson performed another of the center's fall music series events.
The duo, which has recorded a pair of CDs, entertained a crowd of about 60 with their unique talent as both singers and instrumentalists. Bass player Aleckson is one of the most skilled bass players ever heard at the Cultural Center--nevermind that she is a woman, playing a typically "male" instrument. Ouska is an exceptionally talented guitarist who displayed his skill on three different guitars.
Music will return to the Cultural Center November 11, but this time with all local talent. "Open Mic Night" is Tuesday, November 11 at 7 p.m. The evening features a variety of singers and musicians from throughout the area.
