Update: Authorities investigate shooting in Detroit Lakes
An argument among a group of people turned into a shooting at a residence on West Lake Sallie Drive in Detroit Lakes early Tuesday morning.
Dustin Scott Matson, 22, of rural Detroit Lakes, was shot in the upper leg with a .22 handgun, according to acting Becker County Sheriff Kelly Shannon.
Matson was taken by private vehicle to the emergency room at Essentia St. Mary's hospital in Detroit Lakes, then transferred by ambulance to a Fargo hospital for evaluation. He was released this morning.
Shannon said a suspect has been identified by authorities but the suspect's name could not be released at this time.
The alleged shooter and the victim "knew each other," Shannon said. "There was a group of individuals, an argument started," and the suspect fired several shots, one of which hit Matson in the leg.
The suspect and several others fled the scene in a vehicle and the suspect was dropped off at a residence in Frazee. Shannon said deputies know the suspect's general whereabouts and there is no risk to the public.
A "pick up and hold" order has been issued for the suspect. Others who fled with him cooperated with law enforcement and are not being sought, Shannon said.
The shooting was reported about 2 a.m.
