UPDATE: Fargo 18-year-old hurt in boating accident near Perham
The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the injured victim in Wednesday's boating accident on West McDonald Lake.
Nicholas Robert Schmit, age 18, of Fargo, N.D., was seriously injured after being run over by a boat propeller on the north side of the lake. The accident occurred at about 3:50 p.m. on July 4.
According to the sheriff's office, the boat was being driven by Lucas Michael Buerkley, 19, of Fargo. The boat, a 2000 Crownline, is owned by Robert Schmit, 49, of Fargo.
Other occupants of that boat rescued Nicholas Schmit and brought him to shore, where they called 911. Schmit was transported to Perham Health via Perham Ambulance, then later taken by LifeFlight to Sanford in Fargo.
The matter is still under investigation by the sheriff's office.
