Authorities are investigating an incident of vandalism at Perham High School that occurred the morning of Wednesday, May 29.

Two windows were smashed at one of the entrances to the school (Door No. 4, near the band room), and some graffiti was spray painted on the exterior walls above that entrance.

As of Monday, June 3, the investigation was still ongoing. No identities had been released, and no charges had been filed.

Perham Police Chief Jason Hoaby said the vandalism is believed to have occurred at the same time as a separate “senior prank” at the school. While the details remained vague and unofficial as of Monday, Hoaby said damage inflicted through the vandalism is not believed to be connected to the senior prank; rather, a second, separate group of individuals vandalized the school after the seniors were already “mostly done” with their prank.

He said the senior prank required some “cleanup,” but did no damage to the school or grounds.

“Quite a few kids pitched in to help with cleanup,” he added.

Damage from the vandalism is estimated at about $1,000.

Principal Ehren Zimmerman declined to comment on the incident. A telephone message left with Superintendent Mitch Anderson was not immediately returned.

This story will continue to be updated as more details are released.
