Used prom dress buy/sell event to be held in Perham March 13
For girls looking for a less expensive dress for prom, Pam Hoekstra and Doreen Nelson hope to have found an option.
Hoekstra and Nelson have put together a used-dress event to be held on Sunday, March 13 in the aerobics room of the Perham Area Community Center.
The cost to sell a dress is $5. Folks can drop off used dresses from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and dresses will be displayed on sale from 2-5 p.m. People can name their asking price for their dress.
Hoekstra and Nelson request that dresses be brought in on a hanger and be cleaned and pressed. Dresses should also be marked with size, original cost, how many times it has been worn and the asking price.
There will be a place with mirrors where girls can try on the dresses.
Hoekstra said that the area needed an event like this because new dresses can be expensive.
"This event isn't to make money," she said. "It's to help out the girls in the community to get a dress for prom."
This is the first year this event will be held in Perham, and Hoekstra and Nelson hope that girls from the surrounding area take advantage of it.
"We're open too to New York Mills, Frazee, other places," Nelson said.
Hoekstra and Nelson ask to be contacted in advance by those interested in selling a dress.
"We need people to bring in their dresses - that's how this event is going to work," Nelson said.
