Varsity basketball notches tourney victory
The Perham varsity boys basketball team participated and won the Minnesota Basketball Association Hoops tournament in Spring Lake Park May 1-2.
"The Jackets played a great game and came away with a four-point win to capture the championship," Head Coach Dave Cresap said. "Throughout the tourney the Jackets played very well as a team, played great team defense, and rebounded very well for the difference in size."
The team played in the high school/AAU division for juniors and seniors. The Jackets came out and defeated a very good Rosemount team in the first round.
In the second round, the Jackets played Bemidji and defeated the Lumberjacks to get to the semi-finals. The Minnesota Select AAU team was next for the Jackets. The Jackets came out strong and defeated them by a large margin to get the tournament finals.
In the finals, the Jackets played a very good Minnesota Heat AAU team.
The team was comprised of a player that was 6'8" and over 300 pounds and some of the best juniors from five metro schools.
They will participate in one more tournament this spring on May 15-16 at Hamline University.
