The Pacesetter MIT Varsity girls basketball tournament started out Saturday morning in a pool play format where Perham won all four of their 10 minute games taking the top seed in their group.
"The girls played extremely hard both days and I was really proud of the way they played. Finishing second out of 18 teams was a very nice way to end the summer for us," said Head Coach John Gullingsrud.
The first full-length game was against a very tall St. Francis team. Perham won by a score of 59-36.
"That put us in the championship game for our group against Montevideo, which we won by a score of 40-28," Gullinsrud said.
After winning the group, the team advanced to a four-team tournament on Sunday, against the three other first place teams: Sebeka, Champlain Park, and Pequot Lakes.
Perham was matched up against Sebeka in the first game and won 57-36, before losing the overall championship of the tournament against Pequot Lakes, by a score of 55-46.
"Pequot got out to a big early lead, which we cut to three in the second half," Gullinsrud said. "But our girls ran out of gas and never could take a lead."
