Vergil E. Peterson, 90, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, March 21, 2008 at St. Mary's Regional Health Center, Detroit Lakes.
Vergil Evelyn Martinson was born to August and Marie (Moe) Martinson on October 16, 1917 in Audubon Township, where she was raised and educated. As a young adult, she worked at the Edgewater. Vergil married William Peterson on Sept. 29, 1940 at Zion Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Detroit Lakes. William died on April 20, 1977.
Vergil enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards and outdoor activities. The time she enjoyed most was the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving Vergil are her two daughters, Sharon (Robert) Libby of Elk River, Minn., and Sherlene (Ralph) Williams of Detroit Lakes; son, Larry (Dorothy) Peterson of Detroit Lakes; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Peterson of Detroit Lakes; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a sister, Myrtle Martinson of Audubon.
Preceding Vergil in death were her parents; husband William; son, Wendell Peterson; and brothers, Leonard, Clarence and Wallace Martinson.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, at St Peter's Lutheran Church, rural Audubon, with interment following at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. There will be visitation for one hour prior to the start of services at the church.
