Verndale man charged with assault, stopping 911 call
A Verndale man was charged in Wadena County District Court with domestic assault and interfering with a 911 call after an altercation Aug. 1.
Around 12:55 p.m., a sheriff's deputy was summoned to a residence where he was told by the suspect, Robert Lee Weston, 23, that Weston had struck a woman and child with his hand by accident.
According to a court complaint, Weston said he "accidentally" hit the woman and the 1-year-old child she was holding. He said he was reaching for her cell phone to take it away from her.
The woman was allegedly trying to dial 911, but Weston denied knowing that. Stopping a call to 911 is a gross misdemeanor crime.
The charges were filed Aug. 8.
