Veterans Concert Band to perform in Perham
The Red River Valley Veterans Concert Band will be performing in Perham, and the public is invited to attend.
The Perham Lions Club will be hosting the band at SteVelly’s restaurant, with the show starting at about 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 2. The Lions bring the band to town once a year as a special event and fundraiser.
“This is their annual visit to Perham,” said Perham Lions President Diana Osterfeld of the band. “They’ve done it for several years.”
The Red River Valley Concert Band’s mission is to provide patriotism through music. About half the members of the band are military veterans or are currently serving in the National Guard. The other half consists of civilians who play for the love of music and the desire to entertain area audiences. All are volunteers, and their skill level varies from amateur to professional.
While patriotic music is included in every performance, the band’s music is not limited to marches and anthems. The group’s website states that audiences are treated to Broadway show tunes, TV theme songs, big band swing, Dixieland, rock and roll, and even Latin music.
The band, which rehearses in Fargo, currently schedules about 40 concerts per year, many of those within the region. The group is unique in that it is the only band of its size to travel to its audiences.
The show at SteVelly’s is free, and all are welcome to attend. Free-will donations will be accepted for the Perham Lions Club.
