Veterans Day Events

Next Monday, Nov. 11 is Veterans’ Day.

In honor and in memory of those who have served our country, local groups will be hosting events for veterans, their families and the general public.

Following are events being held in Perham and New York Mills this year. All events are on Nov. 11.


-Perham High School, along with the Perham VFW and Auxiliary, will have their annual Veterans’ Day program at 9 a.m. in the high school auditorium. Members of the public are welcome to attend with the students. The program is expected to be about 45 minutes long and will include a presentation by the Color Guard as well as patriotic music.

-Veterans and their families are invited to a free lunch at the In Their Own Words (ITOW) Museum, starting at 11 a.m. Stew will be provided by United Community Bank and the Perham Ladies’ Auxiliary will provide dessert.

New York Mills

-The New York Mills VFW and Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold two Veterans’ Day presentations in the school auditorium.

Kindergarten through fifth grade will have their presentation from 9-10 a.m. “Americanism” coloring contest winners will be announced and there will be a flag-folding demonstration.

At 10 a.m., students in grades six and up will attend a similar, hour-long presentation. Winners of the “Voice of Democracy” and “Patriot’s Pen” contests will be announced.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the second program. Veterans are also invited to stay for lunch at the school.
