Veterans Day events at ITOW
In honor of Veterans Day, veterans and their families will be treated to a free meal, tours and other perks at the In Their Own Words Veterans Museum in Perham.
Activities will take place on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, as well as this Saturday.
“Our heroes are our neighbors and family members who fought for the freedoms we enjoy in America,” said ITOW Executive Director Darla Ellingson. “This Veterans Day celebration is one way for us to honor those that served.”
The Veterans Day celebration will include a meal of stew, bread and beverage, sponsored by Perham United Community Bank (UCB). The Perham VFW Ladies Auxiliary will provide dessert bars and be on hand to help serve. The Perham VFW Color Guard will greet guests and assist with museum tours.
Doors will open Monday at 11 a.m., with meal service starting at 11:30 and continuing until the food is gone.
Also on Monday, a drawing, sponsored by UCB, will be held for two flags that flew over the White House in Washington, D.C. on Veterans Day last year. Plus, ITOW will be giving away items, and there will be patriotic music played during the meal.
A pre-Veterans Day benefit sale will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9.
The day will start with a flag raising ceremony at 9:45 a.m., with sales and events continuing through 3 p.m.
An art and gift sale will take place in the ITOW gallery, a rummage sale including many vintage items will be held in the community room, and the museum gift shop and adjoining White Elephant Thrift Store will have 10 percent off storewide. Treats will be available for sale.
All proceeds will benefit museum operations.
