VFW Baseball: Stingers split with Fergus Falls
Perham's Post 4020 VFW baseball team split a doubleheader at Fergus Falls last Thursday. The Stingers won the first game, 10-7. Then dropped the second, 4-3.
The teams also split on June 22.
In the opener, Perham jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning. Fergus Falls pulled even in the bottom of the second. The Stingers took advantage of a pair of singles and a couple of Fergus Falls errors to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the third, however, Fergus Falls got a run back in the bottom of the fourth after a double and Perham error.
Post 4020 took control of the game with a four-run fifth inning on two hits, two walks and two fielding errors by Fergus Falls. Perham added one more in the sixth and three in the seventh to move out in front 10-2. Fergus Falls made it close in the bottom of the seventh as they scored five runs before Perham shut down the rally
In the second game, Fergus Falls took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third off a walk and pair of singles.
Perham took a 2-1 lead when they strung together four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Fergus Falls made it 4-2 with a 3-run fourth. Post 4020 got their final run in the top of the sixth to close within a run for a final of 4-3.
Post 4020 had games scheduled against New Ulm on Saturday and Moorhead on Tuesday. Scores for those games were not reported.
The Stingers (12-9) will cap off their summer in Detroit Lakes. First, they will finish their regular season at Washington Park on July 20 in a doubleheader. They return to D.L. July 24-26 for the District 9 Tournament.
